About Matt McGraw

Candidate for Ordination PC(USA) rooted in relational and pastoral ministry.

I am an introverted extrovert who values both meaningful relationships and the rhythms of rest and reflection. My wife, Sydney, and I met at LSU and now reside in Fort Worth with our son, Cyrus, and our pets: Ernest, Karl, and Angus. We love extending hospitality to friends, traveling, and exploring museums in our community. I enjoy cooking, sports, Tolkien, history, golf, music, theology, and Presbyterian polity.

My vocational journey has included work as a historical archaeologist, a paralegal, and in sales. In each of these seasons, I have come to recognize God’s providential guidance, shaping and clarifying my call to ministry.

I returned to my hometown of Fort Worth to pursue theological education at Brite Divinity School, where I engaged in rigorous academic study while remaining close to family. Brite’s ecumenical context strengthened my ability to communicate and collaborate across Christian traditions, deepening my commitment to ministry that is both rooted in the Reformed tradition and attentive to the breadth of the Church.

At First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, my ministry has focused primarily on pastoral care, particularly among older adults, alongside teaching theology, biblical studies, and spirituality across generations. These experiences have confirmed my vocation as both pastor and teacher. I continue to grow in pastoral leadership through the mentorship and example of faithful colleagues and leaders within the church.

My vision for ministry is grounded in the conviction that the life of the Church is nurtured through faithful worship, intentional community, and thoughtful Christian education, all offered in a spirit of hospitality and grace. I believe that the Church can be both committed to Christian faith and tradition while continuing to follow the Holy Spirit’s movement towards including all people.
